Listen up jazz fans! If you’re in the Mother City this week and consider yourself a proper jazz enthusiast, then you’re not going to want to miss Norwegian saxophonist Frode Nymo live in Cape Town!
Frode Nymo hails from Valnesfjord in northern Norway and is a notable jazz saxophonist and composer. After graduating from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology he formed jazz trio, Urban Connection, which earned them the “Young Jazz Musicians of the Year” in 1998 at Norway’s prestigious Molde International Jazz Festival.
He later worked with the “Bodø Big Band” under the guidance of Henning Gravrok, has released 3 albums and toured various jazz festivals such as the Montreaux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), North Sea Jazz Festival (Netherlands), EBU Festival in Czech and the Istanbul Jazz Festival (Turkey).
Frode Nymo has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Michael Brecker, Chick Corea, Maria Schneider, Danilo Perez, Michael Buble, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and Ensemble Denada, to name a few.
With his brother, Frode he released the album Inner Urge (2004), and was honored “This year’s attention” in Valnesfjord 1997. He is a two times winner of the Norwegian Grammy Award for best jazz album. He has also received the “Have No Fear” award for best young, jazz musician of the year and continues to appear in clubs and festivals around the world.

Frode Nymo will be playing in Cape Town this May with various shows around the Cape. He will play alongside tenor sax & clarinet player (my brother), Dan Shout, Romy Brauteseth (double bass) and Kevin Gibson (drums) at the Casa Labia for a very special, once-off concert on Saturday, 7th May 2016.
