If you’ve been following my Instagram account or my YouTube channel, you would have seen that I’ve been frockling in the turquoise oceans of Mauritius. I can’t wait to tell you about our exquisite, first trip to the island of Mauritius with Lux Grand Gaube, truly a screensaver dream holiday come true! The list of activities in Mauritius that we enjoyed both at the hotel and on the actual island is vast, but let’s start at the very beginning with our days at the hotel.

Hotel Sweet Home
The Lux Grand Gaube is nettled in the northern shore line of Mauritius. Flanked by the popular tourist spot Grand Baie, this beautifully hidden hotel reveals itself through a long, palm tree lined avenue. While the bays may be hidden from the drive way, they are spectacularly revealed upon arrival.
The newly renovated hotel boasts a fresh, timeless elegance while seamlessly integrating nature from the outside, in. Rich light blue, cool grey, crisp white and palm green are the colours of the day. Cross the water flanked bridge under the alabaster trusses and enter a portrait of a dream come true, the 5 star LUX Grand Gaube.
Rest Your Head
Enjoy an ice cold drink and cool towel on arrival (or tuck into the cafe wares of the LUX Grand Gaube) before being shown to your room. But which room have you chosen? A romantic junior suite or private villa?
With a private beach, the villas offer more space and more privacy. Or cosy up (yes it’s possible with the hotel’s highly effective aircon) in one of 21 romantic junior suites, complete with a king sized bed, oversized bathroom (shower room or bath), balcony and sitting room area.
How To Pass the Time
Before you can ever get your mouth gathering at one of the hotel’s 4 restaurants, work up an appetite at one of the many on site activities. How interesting can a beach be for 5 days? Very interesting. From tennis, supping, snorkelling, swimming, star gazing or the spa, there’s something for everyone at the LUX Grand Gaube.
Work Off That Appetite
With a myriad of activities at the resort, there’s nothing better than ending off the day with a settled tummy and crisp glass of wine. The LUX Grand Gaube tenders 5 restaurants with 5 different cuisines (excluding day time snack stops like French Kiss, their in-house cocktail truck, Ice, their beach front ice cream ‘truck’ or BB’s, who offers the best pool side burgers around).
Inti offers modern Peruvian fare, Bodrum Blue offers new Turkish cuisine, the Creole Smokehouse offers local smoked creole inspired food, the Palm Court presents breakfast and dinner buffets second to none, while the Beach Rouge offers nouvelle cuisine. (Our favourites were the Palm Court and Beach Rouge, but Inti had the best coriander ice cream I’ve ever had and the mezze starters at Bodrum were out of this world!).
The LUX Grand Gaube makes a long day at the beach feel like a quick snap of the fingers. With so much to see and do, staying for 4 nights may serve you well…staying forever would be ideal.
