Cape Town’s oldest pub in the city, The Fireman’s Arms, has burnt down. A video created by Dean Ryan, was posted to Facebook in the early hours of the morning revealing a shocking blaze in the much loved local.
Update: 16:30pm 21.11.19
Their website describes themselves as,
“Established in 1864, Fireman’s Arms is one of the finest and oldest pubs in Cape Town providing fine beers and wines with exquisite food and light meals. The pub has undergone renovations and improvements over the years while keeping the original building and ambiance, it offers high definition viewing and big screen events to it’s patrons while offering exceptional service in a relaxing and traditional setting.” – Fireman’s Arms website
The blaze appears to have started sometime before 2am and was caught on mobile by a driver leaving the city. The last word from the pub on social media was to share their efforts in dressing up the venue for Christmas.
No official statement has been released by the establishment as yet. The extent of the damage is unknown at this time, but the initial pictures are tragic.
