It’s been exactly one month since we watched my latest, favourite Brit pop band, The 1975 live at Rocking the Daisies. Having landing from the UK earlier that week, I had no time to really prep for the festival, but wasn’t going to miss it for the world! So at 10pm I drove through alone to Darling and watched the awesome band.

The crowd for the 1975 were a little bit boring – if I’m honest! I just felt that people didn’t let lose and kinda missed the point of being at a festival – go crazy!
Don’t harm people, obviously, but have FUN! I had NO chance of getting any closer because people just stood in the same spot for most of the show.
I felt like the band were really tired but were also feeding off our energy – of which we didn’t give much until The Sound. But that’s the song they end EVERY show with so, really, they knew it was going to work.
I also don’t feel like they made the most of TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME which has such a strong Afro-beat, I really think they could have fleshed it out a bit more because us Africans woulda gone nuts!
The sound was good, although it could have been a bit louder as we could hear the Beach Bar during the ballads.
Overall, I loved the setup. It was so cool to see their famous rectangle as well as their famous Jaiy twin backup singers. I’m super happy I drove through, but considering 99% of the audience won’t ever see them live again, I really do wish we’d given them a little more. Take a look for yourself:
Rocking the Daisies 2019 Review
They’ve totally transformed the layout of Rocking the Daisies and I actually really like the new setup. The bro-factor has also significantly decreased which was a pleasure. The audience was far more representative of modern day Cape Town and that’s a direction I’ll always support.
There were a number of big brands involved as well and I found the bar to be quiet and easy to access. They also had canned drinks which didn’t bother me either. I know there’d been a lot of complaints last year about the prices, but the Brutal Fruit apple I bought was super cheap (less than R20 if I recall).
Access to the festival was super easy – but that’s because I arrived late, however, the parking setup was also much, much better this year. I got in and out within 3 hours – INCLUDING the show.
I didn’t get a chance to check out the food offerings as I was too late and didn’t sleep over. I did, however, enjoy the super well lit walkways which made the festival feel much safer overall.
