Holiday Inn Express: When I went to Europe earlier this year the place I was least excited to stay in was a franchised hotel group. It was nestled between staying in a rented apartment and a manor house, Dumbleton Hall, where I would be celebrating my cousin’s wedding. As it turned out, the rented apartment was WELL below South African standards (hair in the plug, hair in the sheet, dust under the bed/on cupboard, no hangers in the cupboard, no washing rack for dishes)…in fact, the whole point of staying in an apartment seemed to have been defeated by the poor service!
So by the time we got to the hotel, we were so happy to be somewhere clean, comfortable and welcoming. There is a certain amount of comfort in knowing there are standards and services that are guaranteed by hotel groups. This why, when the Holiday Inn Express group kindly invited me to participate in their fun #StartTips challenge, I was happy to accept. Unfortunately, I’m not going on holiday this season but I do have many road trips planned – starting today! West Coast here I come…
