Barristers is my favourite local steak house. I find it offers the most consistent, best priced and well cooked food in the Newlands/Claremont area. Their pecan pie is to die for, I repeat, TO DIE FOR! I often pop in for their Monday night steak special, which I love, and is also why I’m really keen to visit on a Tuesday for their new winter special.

The Dan Shout Trio will be playing over the course of the next 6 weeks, every two weeks, and will offer music to match the menu. Tomorrow night is Latin Night and the set menu, for R200, includes a start of either tequila baby squid or a beef enchilda, followed by an Adobo T-Bone steak and pavola for dessert. (However, it’s already sold out so look out for June details below.)

Dan says of the project,

“I’m really excited to announce unique performances in association with Barristers and Helderberg Winery! When Barristers and Helderberg Winery heard about my tour to the Wigan International Jazz Fest and the Edinburgh International Jazz & Blues Festival in July, they really wanted to be part of helping us get over to the UK. [They’ve] jumped on board with an amazing venue, great wine and unique menus, tailor-made to enhance the musical theme of each evening: Swing, Latin, Tango and African Jazz. I’ve booked some of my favourite musicians to perform beautiful, intimate music for this series.”

Alongside Dan Shout on tenor sax and clarinet will be an array of Cape Town’s finest jazz musicians. Enjoy the sounds of bossa novas, sambas, salsas and mambos during your 3 course meal, which will be paired with Helderberg Winery Savignon Blanc and a Jack Daniels, all for R195!
