I’ve always associated the Getaway Magazine with my Dad. They were always lying around with his newspapers so I never imaged I’d ever engage with the brand. This weekend sees the Getaway Show, a show I imaged would only be for the fishing-in-rivers type, I-Love-pitching-tents type (I left my last tent pitched at Synergy) and Long-Live-Canned-Food types. But it seems I was wrong. Last year saw 17 THOUSAND visitors to their show! So I was pleased to ask a few questions about the brand and what the Get Away Show is REALLY about:
BCTC: I always associated Getaway Magazine with my folks! But this year’s event has a Castle beer tent and live music. Who is the event aimed at?
The event is aimed at travel, outdoor, and adventure lovers, hikers, mountain bikers, as well as families. There is something for everyone at the Getaway Show.
BCTC: Last year saw over 17 000 visitors. Do you have to be “outdoorsy” to enjoy the exhibitions?
No you don’t. The Getaway Show has a range of activities, live music, wine tastings, and so much more on offer. The Show attracts all kinds of people with vast interests.
BCTC: How far it is from Cape Town?
It is approximately 45km from Cape Town.
BCTCB: Lourensford has a mountain bike and a 4X4 track. Do we have to bring out own vehicles?
The 4×4 track is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and only Mercedes-Benz vehicles will be driven (you can’t take your own vehicle on the 4×4 track).
BCTC: There are over 250 interactive exhibits. What kind of things are on exhibition?
Travel, outdoor, and adventure exhibits will be at the show.
BCTCB: Is there entertainment for kids on the day or is it for adults only?
There will be a range of fun activities for kids, which include a climbing wall, quattro bungy and a bubble ball. Adults can enjoy live music, Castle Lager beer tent, wine tastings, and delicious food.
BCTC: Workshops are also available for visitors. What are these workshops about?
A photography workshop will be available for visitors. Dylan Kotze, Getaway’s photojournalist will be presenting a crash course in travel and wildlife photography. The cost is R350 per person and includes FREE entry to the show.
BCTC: There are prizes up for grabs. Tell us about the Spin and Win competition please?
The Spin-and-Win is very popular! Participants walk away with weekend breakaways, gear, meal vouchers and lots more. All they have to do is jump on a numbered mat at specific times, watch the wheel spin and if the wheel stops on their number, they’re a winner!
