South Africa’s biggest extreme sports outdoor event, the Ultimate X, returns to the V&A Waterfront next weekend for its 5th year. I remember when it was near the Look Out, a small, dirty, hot summer’s day playing host to crazy men doing somersaults on their motor bikes above my head! The event has grown since then to be the country’s biggest extreme sport event. It’s new home is at the Gateway Canal at the Waterfront.
Stay in on Friday night and get up early on Saturday morning to join the Ultimate X extreme sport festival from 10am when the gates open. Alternatively, join a little later in the day and make sure you catch the after party from 9pm featuring Van Coke Kartel and Dean Fuel.
The Ultimate X is sponsored by the most delicious cider in South Africa, Hunters (eXtreme) and will host international sportsmen such as Alastair Sayer (FMX), Paul Ryan (BMX) Jordan Elizondo-Darwin (wake) and Moses Adams (skate). South Africans participating and representing proudly SA talent include Mike Oyston (FMX), David Rigby (BMX), skater Ant De Mendonca and wake boarder Melissa Colborne.
The Ultimate X isn’t just a fun day out, it’s actually a competition where each of the local riders will compete for cash prizes valued up to R120 000 and the title of Hunter’s eXtreme Ultimate X champion 2014!
Tickets are available from Computicket for R150 each or at the gate for R200 (adults) or R60 (kids 6-8yrs).

Facebook & Twitter sorted like it's going outta fashion! Last year’s event was unreal, and 2014 is set to be even more insane! I race Downhill MTB on the daily and have mates competing in this years new addition, MTB pumptrack! MTB as a sport is growing massively and being able to have a competition at an event this size is going to do wonders for the sport.
