Woah! Woah! Woah! Pumps the breaks there lassie! Now you know I’m a pretty determined young lady who is very particular about women having girl power in the modern world. So sharing news about a pageant may seem a little bit out of character for me. But, the truth is, I don’t actually have a problem with pageants. Nope, nope, no siree! The reason is because it takes all types. And if you’re a woman and you wanna be in a pageant then you just go knock yourself right out. As long as you’re happy, I’m happy.
ORIGINS
SO! The Miss Bombshell Betty Pin-Up Pageant isn’t just any old show; it celebrates the more unusual side of beauty – the classic pin up. Pin-up is a culture that balances beauty with more substantial qualities such as intelligence, class, capability, confidence and a sense of ‘genuineness’. The classic pin-up is an iconic image, yet is very much alive in the modern culture today. I have quite a classic look myself (curvy, light skin, dark hair) and I love to rock a red lip, I love this style, so feminine, but strong.
MISS BOMBSHELL BETTY 2015
The pageant is in association with the Dusty Rebels and the Bombshells festival 2015. It’s ironic that I’ve not actually been able to attend the Dusty Rebels official rockabilly festival here in Cape Town, because it seems like a world of fun. Think red lips, short shorts, military colours, slick back hair, motorbikes, Dickies jeans, etc. So what does that have to do with the pageant?
Finalists will be required to dress and style themselves in one retro-inspired outfit of choice and strut their stuff on stage during the live finale at the Dusty Rebels & The Bombshells Rockabilly Festival:

- Where: West Coast Ostrich Ranch, Cape Town
- Submit your details on the Dusty Rebels website to enter.
- The winner must be a good balance of the characteristic old-school look and values, strong views yet with the independence of a modern woman.
- You must be 21 years of age.
- Submissions close on the 27th of September 2015.
MC & JUDGES
The Blue Haired Betty just placed second runner-up in the prestigious Miss Viva Las Vegas Pageant in Nevada USA in 2015, beating out most of an international field of contestants. After gracing numerous magazines, both locally and internationally, she will be the prestigious host for this pageant.
The judges will consist of well-known and established personalities within the local rockabilly and kustom culture scene and will be asked to judge the finalists on specific criteria, based on the ethos of the pageant.
THE WINNER
The winner will be crowned Miss Bombshell Betty 2015 and will receive a front-cover feature in SA Hotrod Magazine, a Harley Davidson hamper, a clothing voucher from Pinn’d Up Clothing, beauty products from AnonaMiss Beauty Emporium and more. A first and second runner up will also both receive hampers full of perfectly pin-up prizes.
