[CLOSED] Windhoek Oktoberfest 2016

Coming from a little town in Nam my family are BIG Namibian Brewery fans (both Windhoek & Tafel). So when I saw this: Windhoek Oktoberfest in CAPE TOWN, I was stoked and dead keen to support it! Considering that I’m not a regular beer drinker, Windhoek really is very tasty and I’ll often choose it to drink if there aren’t ciders.

WINDHOEK OKTOBERFEST AT HILLCREST QUARRY

The Windhoek Oktoberfest is ALL about experiencing an authentic Oktoberfest without having to travel to Germany to do so. The traditional Oktoberfest Cape Town brought to you by Namibia Breweries is a perfect combination of great German food, games & activities, world-class entertainment and excellent Namibian beer, brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (the 1516 Bavarian Purity Law) <– which to my understanding means no sugar can’t be used in their brewing (which helps reduce your hangovers according to my Dad, LOL!).

WHAT’S ON OFFER ON THE DAY

BEER! Glorious BEER! There will also be a special “Festbier” available, which is brewed specially for the Oktoberfest by braumeister Christian Mϋller. Also available will be the Stellenbrau Jonkers Weissbier.

My favourite, FOOOOOOD! Oh my days I love German food! Traditional German food on the menu includes Schweine Haxn (Pork Knuckle); Schweinebraten (Pork Roast), Bretzn (Pretzels), Weisswurst, Bratwurst, Obatzda and much more. YUM! (These pics are from our trip to Switzerland, YUM!)

There will also be performances by the Kirchdorfer band, the official “Hacker-Festzelt” band (from the Octoberfest in Munich since 1994) who will be flying in straight from there to perform at the Cape Town Oktoberfest.

Typical to a traditional fair, there will also be lots of games of which the most prominent are “Stamm-sägen” (Log-Sawing); “Bierstemmen” (Beer-Lifting);“Hau den Lukas” (High Striker ); Nageln; Beer Pong and Catty shooting.

About Oktoberfest (in case you don’t know)

Oktoberfest is the world`s largest beer festival, celebrated annually in Munich, Germany. The first Oktoberfest was held in the the year 1810 in honour of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. Over the centuries it has grown to be one of the most important traditional festivities in the Bavarian culture. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations that are modelled on the original Munich event.
