The very first Come Wine With Us 2017 was hosted last week at Vista Marina in the V&A Waterfront. Never heard of Vista Marina? Me neither! The restaurant is hidden behind the Aquarium and has some of the best views in the Waterfront. If you’ve never heard of Come Wine With Us – you’re also missing out! It’s a great wine and dinner evening aimed at young professionals (or anyone really) who’d like to get out, enjoy some great wine, tasty food and meet other young professionals.
I last visited Come Wine With Us in March 2015! I can’t believe I’ve been 2 years already! But I got married last year so most things went out the window while organising that. I was really happy to join CWWU again as it’s a great evening out and this time they’d paired with Zomato. I invited my brother, Dan, to come along so we could hang out and meet new people.
Come Wine With Us always features one beautiful wine bouquet, on this occasion it was Durbanville Hills. We started the evening on the porch of the restaurant with a glass of their brand new Method Cap Classique upon arrival and harissa prawns just to get the palate going.
Once we’d moved inside and found our seats. We were given a warm welcome by hostess Sybil and an introduction to the selection of wines by Durbanville Cellar Master, Martin. The starter on the evening was a caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella from Burrata, paired with Durbanville Hills white wine.
The mains followed with an espada and the Durbanville Hills Rhinofields pinotage. DELICIOUS! I’m usually a white wine drinker, but the red wine really impressed me on the night.
We were lucky as we actually sat with Martin and were able to ask him a ton of questions about Durbanville and the wine making process. We also told him that we grew up in a one horse town in Namibia and LOW AND BEHOLD if he wasn’t born in Oranjemund! That was just TOO crazy!
For desserts we had a panacotta with summer fruits. I LOVE a panacotta so I was in heaven! The Vista Marina restaurant is brand new, very clean and chic, it was really lovely being somewhere modern in the V&A. I know that Jozi will LOVE this spot when they come down at the end of the year! Ocean views, great seafood and bubbly. Perfect. Here’s a video of what went down on the night:
The next Come Wine With Us will be in June. Join their mailing list to find out when the next event is in Cape Town and to book early. They sell out and you don’t want to miss out.
Thank you to Sybil for hosting us on the evening. We had an awesome time, as always! If you’re a young professional and are keen to get out there and meet new people (this isn’t a dating service, but it is a fun space to just relax, kick back and meet other interesting folk) then DEFINITELY book for the next Come Wine With Us.
Great job! Fun night!
