So I did something rather adventurous and fun a few weeks back! I went to a coffee-house. Yip. You read right. A coffee-house. How the hell is the fun or adventurous? Well, because I don’t drink coffee! While Cape Town stirs early morning and starts revving up after the first cuppa, I’ve just been on the planet enjoying my sparkles (sparkling water). But I was invited to Tribe Coffee, in town, to try their new winter menu and I thought, “Why not?!”
Tribe Coffee is housed within the Donford Motorrad building on Buitengracht Street, and offers a small, but easy coffee location. Upon my arrival, I was warmly welcomed by a gentleman named Jake, whose shop it is. I took at seat at the dining table within Tribe, and curiously observed all the surrounding motorbikes! There were a few other girls who had joined the evening and it was great to meet new people and learn about what they did over some bubbles.

Tribe Coffee Winter Specials
Tribe isn’t only offering you delicious coffee to keep warm, but also a delicious new winter menu. We were lucky enough to be spoilt with their new selection, starting with a delicious glass of Saltare bubbly, recommended by Publik wine bar.
The 6 winter food dishes that followed included:
Pulled Pork Sandwich (R75)
Gruyere Basil Penne Pesto (R50)
BBQ Tribe Beef Burger (R80)
Thai Chicken Curry (R65)
Durban Style Beef Roti (R75)
The dish that took me by surprise was the curry! I don’t actually like curry. I eat it, but I’d never order it out of my own free will. But I LOVED this Durban Style Beef Roti. Paired with a cup of coffee made by barista Dayle Visser, the pairing was excellent!
Apparently it was a bit too hot for the other girls, but it was and the two flavours complimented each other so richly, it was delicious. To be honest, it was pretty hot and was on the dry side (quite like a vindaloo, I learnt that evening!), but I thought it was the best pairing. It 100% warms you up, inside and out, perfect for winter.
Tribe R15 Coffee Special Between 6am – 9am
Don’t forget that Tribe has a R15 coffee special between 6am – 9am daily. This is an awesome deal! If you find yourself in the area, pop in.
I had a really great time in this motor bike filled coffee shop. Chef Oliver Mutombo was responsible for the evening’s food and I enjoyed all the courses. The shop is unassuming, but don’t be mislead. Pop in and enjoy a cuppas as well as an easy eating lunch for under R100.
Thanks to the girls for a fun night out and thank you to Jake Easton and Tribe for having me.
