I Won R7.50 in the Powerball!

I don’t considering myself a gambler (I’ve only ever played at Grand West about 3 times since it opened), but I have been known to play the South African lotteries from time to time. But I totally bought a PowerBall ticket on the FNB app last week and I legit won R7.50! HAHA!

How Often Do You Got To Grand West?

A few weeks ago, 3 friends and I found ourselves visiting the Tops at Spar wine event on a Friday evening. After the event we played arcade games, got a bite to eat and stood pulling faces in the foyer as we sucked on Warheads from our favourite candy store.

It made me realise that I’m actually at Grand West a bit more than I had imagined so I thought it would be cool to see what else they have on in case we find ourselves milling around there after a show once again. Here’s what I found:

Enter the Non-Professional Jazz Singer’s Competition

It’s that time of year again when GrandWest opens auditions for the renowned Open Mic Jazz singing competition. Now in it’s 11th year, all jazz singers (who are not professional singers) are invited to come down to Jackson Hall, every Wednesday evening during September 2019 to try out for the competition.

If you are a talented singer, but you do not make a living from singing and you have not released an album, you are welcome to audition for this competition. Entries are free and there are some fantastic prizes up for grabs, including R100 000!

Go to the Open Mic website for more information.

How many Hondas will break the Guinness Record at GrandWest in September

The Honda Record Hookup on 22 September 2019, is an attempt to bring together as many Honda vehicles as possible to break the Guinness Record previously set in Japan in 2010 (569 cars).

“This is a non-profit, break-even event, done simply for the love of Honda. We hope as many Honda owners as possible will come down to the Sun Exhibits, GrandWest with their cars so we can break the record.” – Elouise Matthys, the PR and Promotions Manager at GrandWest.

So apart from the hundreds of slot machines, roulette tables and black jack stands, there are lots of things to do at Grand West that don’t entail gambling.

Having said that, I still have no intention of gambling at the casino (too many other awesome things to do in Cape Town), but if you see me in a flashy new car, you’ll know it likely came from the lotto!
