Hello my worker bees! I know there are a few grumpy faces this week as the majority of the work force returns to earning a living today, but – it’s hard to deny that this year feels different. Granted, the tiny layer of anxiety is ever present in our pandemic lives, however, the turn of good weather, bustling high season and summer holidays have left us feeling a little more brave in 2022 than in 2021.
It seems just yesterday we were struggling to find liquor, binge-watching Too Hot To Handle (team SA!) or enjoying late night medieval games whiling away our lockdowns. Now, we’re free! And barely know what to do with ourselves!
The truth is that the pandemic has brought with it many awful and heartbreaking stories. Ask anyone – we all have a war story, or two (or three or four or five) – which is why it’s time now to start focusing on the good; albeit rising like bubbles in a swampy dam!
The first piece of “good” I found this year was a lovely new flexible work space and wine club by Culture Wine Bar. For 6 bottles of wine (selected by their sommelier), access to their wine library (flexible workspace) with fast internet and a membership card that allows 10% off purchases when the loaded credit is used – for R795 per month – is a hell of a way to start the year!
I have a soft spot for Culture Wine bar as it was the last place I had a birthday party before the pandemic. Granted, it was under a different name then, but the energy of the room, the arched windows displaying Bokaap, sounds of Bree street rising from the Red Bull Studio (now Blue room), felt like my happy place.
We’ve proven that it is entirely possible to work remotely, we’ve been reminded that keeping things local is beautiful and relevant, that family time is all that matters (whether biological or not) and that our destiny is, in fact, more in our hands than we’d possibly considered. Just ask the 4 million Americans who resigned in July 2021.
I know I’m changed and eager to live a slower, more mindful life because, the truth is, the world feels different because we are different. Let’s make good choices and celebrate the small wins. Here’s more about the wine club. đ

This membership tier is aimed at those who work within the wine trade, with benefits designed around your unique needs.
- Access to the area for meetings, tastings and socialising five days a week 09:30am â 10pm
- List your wines on the Culture Wine Bar website where our customers can âclick & collectâ and purchase your wines through our online portal
- Sell your wines at Culture Wine Bar on the âWine Library Listâ where guests can order your wines to enjoy at the bar
- 10% discount members card that can be topped up with credit at Culture Wine Bar. Discount only applicable when using the card/QR code. Ts&Cs apply*.
- Access for up to (3) invited guests during the above hours (NA for organised meetings or events)
