Non-alcoholic alcohol. What a time to be alive. 😂 But, let’s be honest, it’s more appealing than ever before! Here’s how my relationship with this (now) glorious concept unfolded:
2019: I’ll be honest. When non-alcoholic “alcohol” came out just over 2 years ago I 100% did NOT see the point. I know this perspective was shared by many of my contemporaries – it just didn’t make sense.
2020: Little did we know a lovely Pandemic would come and take over our lives, totally changing the way we see the world and what we want. What does that mean? Our hangovers have returned, with a vengeance, from hell!
2021: Once back into society I had a lovely time visiting bars and restaurants, but GOOD LORD – did my head pay for it the next day. WOW!
2022: Now, 2 years older, the inability to hold liquor after not drinking for a considerable amount of time and how rusty everyone is at driving (if Cape Town’s driving is anything to go by of late, SHEEEESH!) – it’s time for EVERYONE to reconsider non-alcoholic drinks. Enter: Lyre’s Spirit Co.’s
This means, when I heard from Lyre’s Spirit Co.‘s whisky offering, I had never been more interested in the concept…

What is Lyre’s?
Launched in Australia July 2019, Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits is a range of 18 (and growing!) distinct non-alcoholic spirit variants, which includes 5 read to drink mixed cocktails and Classico, non-alcoholic Italian sparkling style. The whole range is crafted to pay homage to the flavours of the world’s most classic, time tested spirits.
The company was founded by multi-award-winning serial entrepreneurs Mark Livings and Carl Hartmann (basically two Aussie logistic & foodies entrepreneurs), with the mission to provide an alternative for those who don’t wish to imbibe alcohol while still having the opportunity to enjoy the flavours of their favourite spirits. It also happens to be:
- Vegan
- The Lyre’s range contains 0.5% ABV (Alcohol By Volume) or less (between 0.2% – 0.3% ABV).
- Best enjoyed with mixers
