Valentine’s Day is always about love, obviously, and revealing those feelings. I have no problem with this because there are so many assholes in the world that really, if someone wants to take the time to say, ‘Hey, you know what? I like you. And I want you to know.’ then I think that’s a good thing. BUT, I know people get sick of lovey dovey stuff every year so I thought I’d recommend some APOLOGY songs.
Writing this post reminded me of a guy who I’d “dated” for a while. He didn’t treat me the way that I deserved which wasn’t cool but we stayed in contact. Months later he said to me, ‘I wasn’t kind to you. I had my own shit going on that I shouldn’t have put it on you. I’m sorry for that’ – or the like. I know. A good girl gets recognition from a bad boy?! Hell must have frozen over! Bottom line, I’ll always have respect for him for saying that to me. Most men don’t have/grow the balls to do that.
So for those of you (boys and girls) who have treated people worse than they deserved to be treated maybe you should consider sending them one of these YouTube videos. I know these are old school but sometimes things are just done right the first time…
FOR GIRLS WHO NEED TO APOLOGISE:
The Carpenters – A Song For You
Short Story: I was shit to you and I want you to know that I know that.
Long Story: It’s a song about a successful woman who is selfish and self centered. Her partner has always been honest, patient and tolerated her but she took him for granted. This song acknowledges that and recognises all the kindess that he showed her.
End Story: Karen Carpenter eventually died from her battle with anorexia.
BOYS WHO NEED TO APOLOGISE:
This is the boring half of the story. Dudes have been using good girls for decades, why they do it I have no idea. So if you’re one of those guys who sleeps with good girls even though you know you’ll never give them the respect they deserve. This song is about you. An acknowledgement is sometimes all it takes to say sorry.
P.S Sorry there isn’t an official video. I have no idea why they don’t have one.
