I must say, I wasn’t very impressed when I initially saw the proposed new City of Cape Town logo. It just seems to complicated for people to imitate and I do think imitation is an important part of logo formation. If people can’t easily write it then the icon won’t spread. From artists, street artists, performance art, kids art, all of these mediums reflect the world around them. Nothing could be easier than scriblling the line of Table Mountain of the current logo.
Although they say it is ten years “old” and outdated; they want to create something more dynamic since we’re the design capital of the world this year. I can understand that but I’m not sure if this is the winning design. I like the symbolism behind the image (see video) and think there are some good bits and some bad. I like the circular table mountain but not all the layers. It look like a cog! Which I guess makes sense for, “The City That Works for You”. Your thoughts?
