Save a Fortune on Clear Make Up Organisers at Dis-Chem

I’ve REALLY been needing to upgrade my makeup storage unit for some time now, but you know beauty isn’t really my vibe so I haven’t know where to start to look for decent organisers. I did my best to keep my cabinets tidy by using some basic trays from Mambos Plastic Warehouse (oh my God I love that place!), but it hasn’t been quite doing the trick.

Makeup Organisers Online

So I started shopping online (my 2015 obsession!) and was REALLY surprised at the cost of things! WOW! One South African site charged R800+ for drawers, some R500! Surely this isn’t what this beauty stuff costs? So I slept on it before making any expensive purchases. (Also – I thought they were made from perspex, but it’s acrylic apparently…(not really sure what the difference is but good to know).)

Fast forward a few days; I went to visit my friends, Phil and Chetna, around the corner and discovered Chet’s beauty parlor! Aka her bedroom or should I say makeup cave?! A glorious little dressing room FILLED with all stuff GIRL. From accessories, candles, starves, shoes, jewellery, nail polish, lights, camera, action, it’s all there! And, low and behold, she had an acrylic drawer – which she bought from Dis-Chem! So my hunt began…

Makeup Organisers from Dis-Chem

I couldn’t find anything online, but when I next popped into Dis-Chem I had my eye on the prize and WOW, Chets was right! I found some AWESOME trays for R100 a pop! One was even R50! What a WIN!

The Range Online

NOW Dis-Chem has their e-comm store live and there are LOTS of options online! Including the Dis-Chem 13 compartment cosmetic organiser,  Dis-Chem Cosmetic Organizer 22.5x13cmDis-Chem Cosmetic Organizer Curved 28x13cm and Dis-Chem Acrylic Organizer 9 Compartments, to name a few.

(Look, they won’t have glass handles or be the premium kind, but I’m sorry. I’d rather use the money on shoes or travelling than something that sits in my bathroom cupboard!)

I used my makeup wipes to clean down my make up. They had gotten all makeup dusty from my brushes, etc. And began to pack away all my makeup so that I can see each item clearly and also use them more quickly now that they’re accessible and organised.

What I liked about them is that you can buy the levels separately. The different kinds easily fit into one another. The only thing you have to be careful of is picking them BOTH us at the same time if you want the whole ‘chest of draws’ on the counter. Otherwise, just pick the top up if you want.

So if you’d like to tidy up your makeup storage, bathroom cabinet counter or dressing table, take a look out for these items in-store or online. I ordered something from Dis-Chem and it came within 2 days. Delivery is free for items over R600 or pay a delivery fee of R60. Personally, I think it’s worth the fee when it saves you the mission of trying to hunt one down. Also, if you have Dis-Chem points then you can get the delivery free like I did! Happy shopping!

**Update 13th May 2016: Great news! I wrote to Dis-Chem and their Category Manager has advised that, “these specific Acrylic Make up Organisers have been re ordered, PLUS some new models will be added”. These items are imported so stock with only arrive around July, but I’m totally fine with that cause they are so worth waiting for! YIPEEE! Thanks to Dis-Chem for confirming and for their excellent customer service.

*Update 10th May 2016:  A number of people tweeted me saying that couldn’t find any in Dis-Chem stores. I went to Claremont, rang Cavendish and Blue Route and they were all sold out. I believe they said they were discontinued. SUPER frustrating as I need more myself! I found a website online that does bulk imports from China, I’m not going to lie, I’ve thought of trying to order some myself! If you happen to see this type of thing anywhere else, please do let me know so that we can all benefit. Thanks! – Meg 🙂

**Update 12th August 2017: While I was initially calling every store in the Western Cape to find organisers, the Dis-Chem online store is now live and I’ve discovered stock available online. I ordered something else from Dis-Chem last week and the service ran like clock work, with my parcel arriving within 2 days. I have updated the post accordingly.

Great post. For someone that is not that “into Makeup” you sure have an enviable stash! Thanks. I have also been looking and am astounded at the costs online. Dischem is also where I will get them I think. That way I can rather spend the money save on uhmm lets say something nice from MAC.
