Confession: I am a bad child because I have never taken my Mother out for Mother’s Day đ To be even more honest, I’m really terrible with presents! Generally, I find present shopping really tricky; I always run out of time, don’t get the right thing, forget about the day, remember when it’s too late. I’m just a bad gift giver.
BUT, in my defense, I do nice things for my loved ones and friends all year around. It’s much easier for me to be in the world and go, “Hey! Mom would love that!” Or “Friend, would love that!”, buy it there and then and give them a treat just because. I’ve just always been terrible with presents, which is weird considering I’m such an empathetic person.

On Sunday May 13th, The Ritz Hotel will be celebrating Motherâs Day by serving a special 7-course gala lunch at Top of The Ritz; the Cape’s only revolving restaurant. Enjoy a âA Journey of Flavours Through Cape Townâ on the 23rd floor from where the vista is nothing short of spectacular.
The menu will include entrĂ©es such as ‘Knysna Oystersâ and âThe Ritzâ, an eye-catching reinvention of a classic avocado ritz.
The main meal is a choice between grilled beef sirloin, served with free range quail egg, fondant potato, Prego jus and Morongo purée or a fresh line fish which comes with salt and vinegar potato cigars, kelp chips and a homemade tartare or a Karoo rack of lamb served with mint pea, spinach farce, truffle celeriac purée and fynbos croquette.
Last but not least, dessert on the menu includes a smashing smoked chocolate mousse, tea, coffee and petit fours.
