I think now, more than ever, we as a nation can agree that supporting local is vital. While Sustainability is a huge conversation internationally, I’ve come to realise just how many South Africans already think in a sustainable, long term fashion. From recycling to sustainable materials or pre-loved items, as a nation, we are apt at making things last.
The pandemic has certainly propelled us to support local more than ever, which is why I was interested in exploring Curve Gear – a Proudly South African leather brand focusing on creating long-lasting, quality apparel. When I initially saw their boots I immediately thought, “Cat versus Timberland” and having grown up in a diamond mining town, I felt right at a home with the concept of durability.
From Mine to Mine
I reached out to Curve Gear and was right on the money. The Curve Range of pumps are a staple in the global mining scene, known for savings, safety and durability. It is with this ethos that they have extended their range to Curve Gear, stylish lifestyle products that range from boots to bags to belts.
The women’s leathers range focuses on feminine functionality. Ergonomically engineered, each piece is crafted from bovine leather with antique styled brass fittings. The lining is, however, polyester, but has the intention of being durable and long lasting. These items are made to last a few generations and are not intended to be fast fashion.
We are dedicated to creating high-quality apparel for hard-working go-getters who work and play in diverse outdoor and urban spaces. – Curve Gear
Fast Fashion to Long Fashion
I’m constantly thinking about my purchase choices, particularly due to lockdown level 1 when things broke and you literally couldn’t replace them for 2 – 3 months! I’m absolutely more focussed on quality over quantities these days and I immediately realised this Tan Purse (R955) would be the perfect upgrade to an orange tan felt purse I bought at Primark when I was last in the UK.
I also have a Nine West handbag that I bought LITERALLY 15 years ago. The bag part is actually still intact, but the straps are falling apart. Lesson learnt! Now when I’m looking to buy a new handbag I always assess the straps. Enter the Curve Gear tote bag (R1950). Designed with a spacious interior and separate zip compartment, it’s built to carry your laptop – which means the straps are hardy for heavy items.
The Curve range comes in both dark and tan leathers.
