Europe Day 6: Luton Holiday Inn Express

Holiday Inn LutonSorry that I’ve been so quiet. I’ve been off the grid in Italy! Let me catch you up…We had a beautiful time in Scotland and it’s always sorry to say goodbye to such a beautiful country and friends, however, it was on to our next leg of our holiday. Unfortunately we weren’t able to get our connecting flights between Scotland and Zurich on the same day so the Luton Holiday Inn Express kindly offered us a night’s accommodation near Luton so that we could relax and catch our flight, easily, the next day easily.

After staying at the Holiday Inn Express Cape Town I was interested to visit the Luton Holiday Inn Express which is the closest hotel to Luton airport. If you didn’t have suitcases, you could easily walk to the hotel (it’s probably less than 1 km away) but because we had luggage, we took the free bus down the road.

Holiday Inn Express LutonOur room was small but, most importantly, very clean! I don’t always find the standards of cleanliness in UK match up to South Africa’s, so I was pleased with the very clean Holiday Inn Express room. It has simple amenities and is made for the travellers: a simple, convenient space for those on the move.

The hotel is right next to the Luton run way so you can see planes coming into land during the day and night. It’s remarkably quiet considering it IS that close to the runway. As you walk down t0 reception you can check out the aeroplanes parked near the hotel, it’s quite fun!

Clean Holiday Inn ExpressThe room has a clever space saving technique whereby the bathroom room is also the loo door and the two “rooms” are at an angle. I thought this was fantastic in a small space. They are also requesting guests keep green living in mind (throw your towels on the floor if you want replacements, hang up if not), which I appreciate.

The hotel offers free wifi throughout as well as a simple breakfast which includes (cereals, eggs, toast, sausage, coffee & juice). They had the morning news on TV which allowed me to catch the Oscar Pistorius trial that I had forgotten about and really wanted to catch.

If you’re looking to stay somewhere close the Luton then definitely check out the Luton Holiday Inn Express. Unless you have friends who are able to pick you up (in a car) right at the airport, I wouldn’t bother making a mission for one night. Staying at the Holiday Inn Express is far more convenience and takes any worry out of getting back to the airport on time in the morning.

RANDOM ENGLISH THING 5:

We went into the town of Luton to see if we could do some shopping (I wouldn’t recommend it, it’s the less pretty side of England (poorly behaved white people always scare me!) but we found a Primark which is filled with onesies! I know Cape Town loves a good onesie:

Onesies Everywhere
