Ok this is major news! Especially in the wake of last week’s uproar about the 90% local music rule and people feeling like there’s not enough SA music to support and whether the quality would be good enough and, and, and. Rocking the Daisies has decided to add a PURE hip hop stage to this year’s festival, enter Two’s Up!
For years hip hop has been home on the electro-dome stage because, technically, it is an eletronic music (thanks Patrick for making me see the light there!). But SA has so much hip hop music and variants of hip hop in SA that I think it’s totally cool that it’s been given it’s own space at the eco-music festival. And not only is it a brand new stage, it’s also the festival’s TENTH stage! Rocking the Daisies says,
“Powered by Pop Bottles Entertainment, the Hip Hop stage will introduce a new flavour to the festival’s already diverse line-up. Expect to see the hottest in SA Hip Hop, with the usual top technical and production design that Pop Bottles Entertainment fans have come to expect. The stage, titled Two’s Up, signifies the festival’s goals of providing a unique entertainment offering.”
The addition of this 10th stage makes Rocking the Daisies the South African festival with the most stages, ensuring entertainment for 25 000 won’t be at a loss. The current Rocking the Daisies stages:
- Main Stage (local and international bands)
- Campsite Stage (smaller bands, pre-festival music that kicks off on Thursday night)
- Beach Bar (house DJ bar)
- NuWorld Beat Barn (Balkan and new world beats)
- Electronic Dome (Rave Cave! All electronic music)
- We Love Summer
- Tropical Roast (“a new party department, radically weird and wonderfully eccentric)
- Electronic Campsite Stage (Hot new acts spinning the freshest new beats)
- Lemon Tree Theatre (Comedy tent)
- Two Up’s (hip hop stage)
Now in its 11th year, Rocking the Daisies Music and Lifestyle Festival takes place over four days from 6-9 October 2016 at the beautiful Cloof Wine Estate in Darling in the Western Cape.
